The Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) is a residential campus located within the confines of the lush, verdant Vidyanagari Campus of the University of Mumbai, with suitable accommodation and boarding provided for all students. Mumbai, the commercial capital of the country, is known for its multi-cultural milieu, dynamism and rich scientific legacy.
The city boasts of some of the premier scientific and educational institutions of the country, such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and IIT-B Mumbai. Students at CEBS are nurtured within a rich cultural and scientific environment. Besides intensive involvement instimulating academic work including field trips and project visits, CEBS students also have time for sports, cultural and other enriching activities.
The Centre aims to eventually have about 600 students, core faculty members and support staff. CEBS has state-of-the-art infrastructure in both the prefabricated, and newly constructed, permanent structures. At present, these structures house modern, well-equipped research laboratories, library and computer facilities. CEBS offices and laboratories are at three different locations within the Vidyanagari Campus.
