Admission through KVPY/Science Olympiad

Academic Year 2020-2021 

Students who have applied for admission to UM-DAE CEBS through KVPY/Science Olympiads are requested to send the following documents as attachment to before 5 p.m. on 10 November 2020. 




The students who have:

  1. Qualified through KVPY (SA) and have passed their 12th standard or equivalent examination from any recognized board in India in the year 2020 with at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in the 12th standard board examination (for SC and ST candidates, the requirement is 55% marks
  2. The student should have been born on or after 1 August 2000. There is a 5 year relaxation in age for SC/ST students.

Only students who satisfy both the above two conditions are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on rank obtained in KVPY examination. In the event of more than one student having same rank, the marks obtained in 12th standard will be the deciding factor. OBC-NCL candidates should produce a valid OBC NCL certificate from the competent authority. The class should have been mentioned in the central list of OBCs (

Category-wise distribution of seats under KVPY

  1. General category - 6 (six seats)
    2. OBC-NCL category - 3 (three seats)
    3. SC category - 2 (two seats)
    4. ST category - 1 (one seat)


Documents Required

  • Clear copy of 12th standard mark sheet
  • Clear copy of Caste Certificate if you belongto OBC/SC/ST (only for KVPY Students)
  • Clear copy of 10th standard mark sheet or any other documents that shows your date of birth
  • Clear copy of letter from KVPY selecting the student as a KVPY Scholar (only for KVPY)

Science Olympiad Students:

Students who have secured medals in any of the following Science Olympiads conducted by HBCSE only are eligible to apply


  • International Chemistry Olympiad (2019)
    • International Mathematics Olympiad (2019)
    • International Physics Olympiad (2019)
    • International Biology Olympiad (2019)
    • International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics (2019)


The applicant should have passed his/her 12th standard in the year 2020 from any recognized board in India with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate in the 12th standard board examination. The applicant should produce a letter/certificate issued by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai, testifying that they have received the medal. Preference will be given to Gold Medallists followed by Silver and Bronze Medallists respectively.






Consequent on the withdrawal of admission of a few students, vacancies may arise in different categories in UM-DAE CEBS.  Students will be informed by email registered on the admission portal and requested to upload the documents and pay the requisite fee by 6 p.m. the following day.  Failure to do so will result in the admission being withdrawn and offered to the candidate next in order or merit.  The offer of admission will be strictly in order of merit in respective categories.

About Us

CEBS was set up by the Department of Atomic Energy and the University of Mumbai in 2007. CEBS offers a 5 year integrated MSc program in Basic Sciences, with undergraduate teaching embedded in a postgraduate and research environment, for students who have completed 10+2 schooling or its equivalent.
